Runs winning streak to seven
BantamweightUFC
October 5, 2024
Bautista defeated Jose Aldo via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC 307 on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
ANALYSIS
Credit to Bautista for doing what was necessary to (barely) win the fight and not worrying about the crowd reaction in the process. The entire world knows Aldo possesses some of the best takedown defense of all time in any division, but that didn't stop Mario from firing off 10 attempts. Every single one failed, but Bautista was still credited with 7:15 worth of control time because his primary offensive weapon was to pin Aldo along the fence. With the fight tied at a round apiece, Mario went to the well over and over in Round 3. It wasn't pretty to watch, but it did convince two of the three judges that he deserved to win the fight. The 31-year-old MMA Lab product has won seven straight dating back to February 2022 and is closing in on title-implicating bouts in what is a loaded bantamweight division.

Runs winning streak to six
BantamweightUFC
January 13, 2024
Bautista defeated Ricky Simon via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's up for debate as to whether or not Bautista deserved his decision win over Da'Mon Blackshear last August, but he absolutely deserved the one he got here. Facing a noted volume wrestler in Simon, Bautista's takedown defense held up. He gave up one in each the first and third rounds, but he worked his way back to his feet in both instances. His ability to recover in the final frame was particularly impressive, as Mario was able to batter Simon the remainder of the round. It was another stellar effort from a guy that doesn't get the love he deserves in a loaded bantamweight division. Bautista has won six in a row since a March 2021 knockout loss to Trevin Jones.

October 8, 2023
Bautista will compete against Ricky Simon in a bantamweight fight at UFC Vegas 83 on Jan. 13, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Bautista will look to continue his winning ways in 2024. He logged a 2-0 record with wins over Guido Cannetti and Da'mon Blackshear. Now, Bautista can begin his 2024 by defeating No. 12 Simon and establishing himself in the UFC's bantamweight rankings.
Rallies to victory in Boston
BantamweightUFC
August 20, 2023
Bautista defeated Da'mon Blackshear via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 292 on Saturday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
Bautista seemed to have trouble dealing with the aggression and speed of Blacksheer initially, but the 30-year-old never got flustered after a tough first round, staying in the bout until he was able to weaponize pace and pressure against an opponent who took the fight on short notice. Bautista appears to have rounded into form after a shaky start to his UFC career, as he is now riding a five-fight winning streak. While not the most powerful fighter, the MMA Lab product has a nice all-around skill set that could see hm knocking on the door to the top 10 before long.
Set to face Blackshear
BantamweightUFC
August 14, 2023
Bautista will fight Da'Mon Blackshear at UFC 292 on Saturday, Cole Shelton of BJPenn.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After his original fight with Cody Garbrandt was called off, Bautista will face Blackshear, who is fighting for the second time in seven days. Bautista stands one-inch shorter than Blackshear and also has a three-inch reach disadvantage. Bautista has not faught since March, giving the fighter a significant rest advantage over Blackshear, who claimed his second win in a row over Jose Johnson via submission (twister) last Saturday.
